Arrange a Visit
We invite all families who are interested in Barnard Castle School to come and enjoy a personalised visit. We welcome requests to meet with either the Headmaster, Mr Alan Stevens, or Mrs Laura Turner, Headmistress of the Prep School, and to be taken on a tour of the school by pupils. For prospective day pupils, visits typically take 1.5 hours; for boarding pupils it is nearer 2 hours as your visit will include a tour of the boarding house and a chance to meet the boarding Houseparent.
To arrange your visit, please contact Mrs Julia Simpson, Admissions Secretary on:
+44 (0)1833 696 030 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
We hold a number of open events and opportunities for families to visit informally, although we recommend that you book an appointment in advance.
October Open Days
The school will be open for visits on the 7th October 2017 between 09:30-11:30.
Bridging the Gap
This is an opportunity for all Year 6 students joining Year 7 in the following September to meet their peers. The students spend a couple of hours at school in an exciting science lesson and in their choice of art, music or sport classes. Parents are invited to stay and have a coffee and chat to staff and students and, if they wish, go on a tour of the school.
As well as welcoming parents and children on a personal tour of the school, we are happy to offer ‘taster days’ to give pupils a first-hand experience of what the school is like. As well as joining lessons, they can try some of the many activities available. Boarders, including children who may take up flexi boarding, are very welcome to spend an evening or weekend with us.
Pupils currently taking their GCSEs who would like to see what Sixth Form life is like at the school are welcome to shadow one of our pupils already in the Lower Sixth. Wherever possible we will arrange for pupils to join lessons in their chosen A Level subjects.
New pupils’ reception
This is held in June and is an opportunity for new pupils across all the year groups to meet their peers and their Housemaster/Mistress. They spend the afternoon in school joining fun activities based around team-building. Parents are invited to use the opportunity to ask any questions of school staff.
New parents’ reception
On the Sunday afternoon before the new academic year begins in September, new pupils’ and parents’ from all year groups are invited to join the new pupils reception. Children in Prep School are taken to their classroom with their new teacher, while Senior School pupils spend time with their House staff. Parents can mingle with new and existing parents and discuss any matters or ask questions of staff. During the first part of the first term there is an induction service for new pupils and all new families are encouraged to attend this and the reception afterwards.
