Types of Support

There are many ways to support Barnard Castle School and its legacy of educating and developing outstanding young people.

A rewarding and fun way to get involved and stay in touch with life at school. Perhaps you could spare time to host or help at an event, put yourself forward as a guest speaker or simply put your organisational skills to good use? Opportunities to get involved vary by project and by level of commitment.

Sharing your network
Do you have an enviable personal or professional network? Could you help our aspiring Sixth Form pupils or alumni make beneficial connections or business links, help us secure guest speakers or help us identify potential opportunities to further develop our OB network via Barnardians Reconnected?

Could you help identify internship opportunities in your organisation for our Sixth Form pupils or perhaps offer your time as a sector-specific speaker for our careers programme?

Taking part
If you’re a current parent, get involved by joining Barney Friends. The Prep and Senior BF groups meet regularly over coffee and are a great way of meeting fellow parents and contributing to our busy calendar of social events.

Each and every penny of your donation is put to good use whether you opt to give to the Foundation for capital projects, to sponsor a pupil through our bursary programme or a specific project that is of particular interest to you. As the school is a charity, there are tax benefits for those who donate, and we are able to claim back the basic or higher rate tax on donations from UK taxpayers. We are an Approved Institution of the British Schools & Universities Foundation in the USA, allowing US taxpayers the opportunity to support us in a tax-efficient manner.

Gifts in kind
There are valuable and imaginative ways to support the school without donating money. Individuals may wish to donate school-related items to our archive, while companies may wish to support us by donating expertise, goods or services in support of a particular event or occasion.
