Biennial CCF Dinner 2022

25 Mar 2022

It was wonderful to welcome back WO1 Lewis for our biennial CCF Formal Dinner Evening last night.

The celebration, which was two years in the making because of several Covid-related postponements, proved to be a memorable occasion as we dined out a true Barney legend, while recognising the strength and achievements of our thriving contingent.

Taking place on the penultimate evening of the Lent term, we welcomed several distinguished guests, including military personnel, OBs and current pupils, many of whom Mr Lewis inspired over the course of his 20+ year career at Barney.

The Band and Bugles of Durham ACF performed beautifully throughout the event, serenading guests in the Dining Hall, who enjoyed a delicious five-course meal prepared by Barney’s catering staff and served by several students. Many thanks, as ever, for your dedicated hard work all.

Mr Wardman, perhaps, delivered the icing on the cake for the evening. Unbeknown to Mr Lewis, he had arranged for a field gun to be in place at the back of school, which was manned by several of Mr Lewis’ former pupils and cadets, for a 7-gun salute, for which Mr Lewis was given the honour of firing the final round of blanks.

Overall, it was a fantastic event to pay tribute to Mr Lewis and recognise his many years’ service at Barney, during which time he has inspired and mentored thousands of young people.

We are grateful to everyone who made the evening so special, and would like to wish Mr Lewis and his wife, Joyce, all the very best in their retirements.
