Well done to all Senior School pupils who took part in and completed Mrs Kent’s recent ‘MFL Gastronomic Challenge’!

Students taking a language were set a challenge to find out more about dishes eaten in a country where the language is spoken, while at the same time encouraging them to develop practical cooking skills – and do something useful for the benefit of their family!

The task was to research recipes, plan a three-course meal and then cook one of the dishes. Pupils had to provide photographic evidence that they had done this successfully and include reviews from family members about the taste.

The standard of entries was very high and made for extremely interesting (and mouth-watering!) reading. While many dishes focused on specialities from France, Germany and Spain with bœuf bourguignon, Wiener Schnitzel and tapas being popular choices, it was impressive to see recipes from countries further afield such as Argentina, Mexico and Burkina Faso.

Picking a winner was exceptionally hard and it was clear that everyone who entered had put their heart and soul into the challenge.

Overall winners were: Hattie and Alex (French), Bel (Spanish) and Seb (German).

Congratulations to the following students who gained a merit and, on return to school, will also receive a small edible prize: Isabelle, Laura, Matthew, Sam, George, Isabel, Ed, Molly, Georgie and Imogen.
