The week commencing 2nd February began with a spark of pure inspiration. We were delighted to host Lisette Auton, a celebrated author whose work is deeply rooted in the power of the North East and the beauty of being ‘different’. As a disabled and neurodiverse creator, Lisette brought a powerful message about the strength found in our individuality.
Beyond the storytelling, the visit served as a vital platform for important conversations. Lisette spoke openly about neurodiversity and disability. She reframed these not as barriers, but as unique lenses through which to see the world.
It was a joy to witness the students’ reactions as they realised that their own ideas, no matter how quirky or ‘different’ they might seem, are their greatest assets. The session highlighted:
- Embracing what makes us unique
- Trusting our own ‘internal spark’ to tell stories
- Learning from the lived experiences of others
Lisette has left a lasting impression on our school community. Since her visit, the classrooms have been buzzing with ‘what if’ questions and new story ideas. She has truly opened up a dialogue about how our minds can be the most fantastic tools we own, provided we have the courage to use them.
We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Lisette for her time, her energy, and for reminding us all that there is no ‘right’ way to be creative. There is only your way.
