Barnard Castle School Prep School has received two nationally recognised awards, reflecting its strong commitment to pupil wellbeing and environmental responsibility.
The Prep School achieved the Wellbeing Award for Schools, which recognises schools that place mental health, emotional support, and positive relationships at the heart of everyday school life.
The award acknowledges a whole-school approach to wellbeing, supported by staff training, pupil voice, and consistent pastoral care. For pupils, this creates a nurturing environment where they feel supported, valued, and ready to learn.
Alongside this, the Prep School also earned the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award. This internationally recognised accreditation celebrates schools that take meaningful action to reduce their environmental impact and promote sustainability. Pupils played an active role in initiatives such as recycling, energy awareness and caring for the natural environment, helping them develop a strong sense of responsibility for the world around them.
Achieving both awards highlights the breadth of the Prep School’s educational approach. Academic learning sits alongside personal development, wellbeing, and environmental awareness. Pupils benefit from opportunities that encourage them to think critically and contribute positively to their community.
Staff and pupils worked collaboratively throughout the year to meet the criteria for both awards. Their dedication and enthusiasm ensured that wellbeing and sustainability remained embedded in daily routines, lessons, and wider school life.
