As the academic year draws to a close, the Barnard Castle School community gathered to celebrate the journeys of our Year 6 and Year 13 students. After years of dedication and hard work, our annual Valedictory Services give the perfect opportunity to reflect on some truly incredible achievements and give our Leavers the recognition and celebration they deserve.
Our latest class of Preppies marked the end of their Prep School journey and commemorated their time with a sentimental service of laughter and reflection. Holding up tradition, every pupil received their Barney blue box and delivered a moving rendition of ‘Firework’, highlighting just how much they’ve grown.
They looked back over the last seven years of friendship and adventure, ready to take these long-lasting bonds and lessons into the next chapter.

The final service of the week took place in the Chapel, where we gathered to say goodbye to our Year 13 students. They were presented with their hymn books and yearbooks as a welcoming gift to the Old Barnardian Community. The service featured a traditional last rendition of Hymn 24 (Jerusalem) that was sung with complete passion; it never fails to bring a tear to the eyes of parents and students alike.
Finally, everyone enjoyed a walk down memory lane with a viewing of the official Leavers’ Video before heading outside for a wonderful afternoon of reminiscing over refreshments before the final farewell.
To our remarkable Year 13 class, we would like to extend a huge thank you for your character and lasting contributions to school life. While you’ll be greatly missed, we know that you’re ready to make your mark on the wider world and we wish you every success in future endeavours.
And to our wonderful Year 6 class, we’re extremely proud of the kindness and enthusiasm you’ve carried through Prep. As you take your next steps, we’re looking forward to watching you conquer new challenges on your journey of achievement.
Good luck, Leavers; we’re wishing you all the very best!
