A morning with local MP Sam Rushworth

Students got the chance to ask questions about the fast-paced daily life of an MP

A morning with local MP Sam Rushworth

On Friday morning, our Year 12 Politics students were delighted to welcome our MP, Sam Rushworth, for a fascinating Q&A session.

The timing of the visit could not have been more relevant, taking place the day after the Makerfield by-election. Before joining us, Sam had already been taking part in radio interviews discussing the much-anticipated result, giving students a real insight into the fast-paced nature of political life.

During a frank and engaging discussion, students had the opportunity to ask questions about both his parliamentary responsibilities and daily life as an MP. Topics ranged from his work with the Council of Europe to the Auckland Project, providing a broad perspective on public service and political life beyond Westminster.

The session gave our students a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning with contemporary politics, and we are grateful to Sam Rushworth for sharing his time, experiences, and insights with us. It was an engaging and thought-provoking morning that left us all with a greater appreciation for the varied and demanding role of an MP.

We’d also like to say well done to the students themselves for their enthusiasm and respect during the Q&A session. Politics can be a complicated subject, particularly during such a contentious period. But everyone approached the session with an open mind and got the most out of the experience. Thank you, Year 12.
