The new term began with the Headmaster’s Assembly in Chapel on Wednesday 7th January, offering pupils a positive and purposeful start to the months ahead.
In his address, our Headmaster, David Cresswell, encouraged pupils to think about what they could do over the next couple of months to “stack things in their favour”.
The focus was on forming good habits and keeping momentum going, rather than setting unrealistic resolutions. Small, consistent actions were highlighted as an effective way to support progress and wellbeing during the term.
Special recognition was given to pupils in Years 11 and 13, who move straight into their mock exams. They were wished the very best as they begin this important period, alongside a reminder that pupils currently in Years 10 and 12 will soon find themselves in their position.

The Assembly also highlighted another approach to setting goals: trying something new. Pupils were encouraged to step outside their comfort zones by taking up a new sport or activity, or by putting themselves forward for opportunities such as this term’s school musical.
The importance of teamwork and the role these experiences play in building character were key themes. The Assembly set a clear message for the weeks ahead, encouraging pupils to make the most of opportunities, support one another, and continue building positive habits.
