Exercise Battle of Barney

Cadets across Years 9 to 11 demonstrated tactical skill and resilience during Exercise Battle of Barney, a challenging 48-hour CCF field exercise.

The Contingent cathered around the CCF flag after their exercise.

In their last term of the school year, our Combined Cadets Force put their skills to the test and participated in the Exercise Battle of Barney! With 48 hours in the field, our cadets worked through a series of challenges using everything they’ve learnt so far in their careers.

Cadets conducted Close Target Recces and standing patrols, as well as searching an enemy headquarters on the hunt for crucial intelligence. Then, from their harbour area, they used the information they’d discovered to assist them in making a battle plan in preparation for Sunday morning’s platoon attack.

This was our Year 9 cadets’ first time in the field on a major exercise as riflemen, as our Year 10 cadets pushed themselves and took on the leadership responsibilities that come with being Section Commanders and Second-in-Command. This showcased what they’d learned during Exercise First Look and they were greatly supported by Year 11 mentors Sergeant Tudor and Corporal Swan.

Lance Corporal Tarn effectively led 2 Section forward when under fire during the final assault. Everybody showed great composure and resolve as they moved towards the well-defended objective.

We want to join the CCF and wider Barney community in congratulating Cadet Longstaff in his promotion to Lance Corporal, as Captain Imms noted his incredible show of skills and commitment to the challenge.

Well done to everyone who was involved in the exercise for rising to the tests and trials and maintaining the high-standard demonstration that is expected of the Contingent.
