Barnard Castle School is proud to have achieved Silver in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. This award recognises our commitment to supporting serving personnel, veterans, reservists, and military families as part of our Barney community.
This national recognition reflects our long-standing connection with the Armed Forces. It also celebrates the work our staff do every day to help Forces families feel welcomed and supported.
We understand that military life brings unique opportunities as well as challenges. Frequent relocations, changing schools, and time apart from loved ones can all shape a young person’s experience. And that’s why we work hard to make sure pupils quickly settle into school life and feel part of a community from day one.
Through our Barney Forces Families (BFF) programme and Continuity of Education Allowance (CEA) support, we are proud to offer an exemplary educational experience that also understands the realities of military life.
That support extends across every aspect of school life. Our boarding community and varied co-curricular programme give pupils the confidence to embrace new opportunities and make the most of their time at Barney, wherever their family’s military career may lead.
Achieving the Silver Award is a proud milestone for the School and our incredibly committed staff. We look forward to continuing to support the Armed Forces community for many years to come.
