During the last half term, we were delighted to welcome back Dr Guy Sutton to Barney for our annual Brain Day.
Designed specifically for our Lower Sixth Biologists and Psychologists, the immersive day served as a fascinating introduction to neuroscience, giving students a brilliant head start as they prepare for their Upper Sixth studies.
Dr Sutton’s session pushed students to think critically about how our brains shape the way we live, learn, and interact with the world. Key highlights included:
- A hands-on anatomy lesson where students got up close and personal with the physical structures of the brain during a sheep brain dissection.
- The group explored everyday neurobiology, considering how modern lifestyle factors, such as sleep, nutrition, and social media usage, directly impact daily brain function and mental well-being.
- Using real-life case studies, students analysed the complex, intriguing links between brain structure, injury, and criminal behaviour.
- Looking ahead, the sessions concluded with a fascinating dive into the cutting-edge world of computer-brain interfaces and the latest breakthroughs in global neuroscience research.
As always, Dr Sutton’s infectious enthusiasm and deep expertise inspired plenty of curiosity, thoughtful questions, and lively discussion throughout the day. We would like to extend our warmest thanks to Dr Sutton for once again delivering an unforgettable day of academic enrichment.
