Barney rugby duo selected for England U17 camp

Two Barnard Castle School Year 12 pupils are celebrating a major milestone in their rugby journeys after earning selection for the England U17 squad camp at Hartpury College.

Sonny H and Josh D are currently training alongside some of the country’s most promising young rugby players in an elite development environment. Their selection reflects the hard work and commitment they have shown throughout the year, both in training and during competitive fixtures.

The England U17 camp provides players with the opportunity to experience high-performance coaching and compete at an advanced level, helping to support their continued development within the game. Selection for the programme is a significant achievement and highlights the standards both pupils continue to set in school rugby.

At Barney, rugby plays an important role in developing ambition, resilience, and teamwork, and the success of Sonny and Josh is a proud moment for the wider school community. Their achievement also reflects the strength of the rugby programme and the dedication shown by players and coaches alike throughout the season.

Representing the school in such a prestigious setting is a testament to the effort both pupils have invested in their development over a sustained period of time. Opportunities like this not only reward talent, but also discipline and a willingness to continually improve.
