British boarding with a global outlook
International pupils at Barney are welcomed as full members of our boarding family. They live and learn alongside British pupils, sharing rooms, lessons and experiences that foster lasting friendships and mutual cultural understanding. Each child is carefully supported by a personal tutor and a dedicated House team, with additional guidance from our International Registrar.
Our goal is to ensure every pupil settles in quickly, feels at home and has every opportunity to succeed. From the classroom to the co-curricular programme, international students are fully integrated and encouraged to make the most of all that Barney has to offer.
Short-term opportunities, long-term growth
A flexible and enriching boarding journey
Barney offers both long and short-term boarding options, tailored to suit individual family needs. Some international pupils stay for just one or two terms, while others join us for the full journey through to A Levels.
Short-stay pupils follow the full academic timetable and receive English as a Foreign Language support where needed. Many discover a strong connection with the school and choose to extend their stay.
Whether your child joins us at age 7 or 17, they will benefit from our nurturing environment, exceptional teaching and a boarding journey that develops independence, confidence and character.
Safety, continuity and communication
Peace of mind for international families
Set in the secure and peaceful countryside of Northern England, Barney provides a safe environment where your child can flourish. Our boarding houses remain open during Exeat weekends, offering family-style meals, social activities and a warm, caring atmosphere for boarders who remain on site.
We understand the logistics of living far from school and work closely with families to provide ongoing communication and reassurance. Parents are encouraged to visit, where possible, or meet with staff virtually during the admissions process. From first enquiry to arrival and beyond, we’re here to support both you and your child every step of the way.
