Our Senior School curriculum is designed to inspire, challenge and support every pupil. We provide a broad and balanced education that promotes curiosity, creativity and academic excellence, preparing our pupils for life beyond the classroom.

Our approach

A broad and balanced education

Our curriculum is carefully crafted to ensure that pupils develop a deep understanding of core subjects while also exploring new interests and passions. From the moment they join the Senior School, pupils are encouraged to think critically, engage with ideas and develop a lifelong love of learning.

We believe in the importance of a traditional academic foundation, offering a rich programme of subjects including English, Mathematics, Science, Languages and Humanities. Alongside this, our pupils benefit from a wide range of creative and practical disciplines, such as Music, Drama, Design & Technology and Art.

Inclusive & engaging

A curriculum for every learner

Our approach is inclusive and tailored to the needs of each pupil. We recognise that every child has their own strengths and aspirations, so we offer opportunities for extension and enrichment, as well as support for those who need it.

Small class sizes and dedicated staff ensure that every pupil receives the attention and guidance they need to thrive. Teachers work in close partnership with pupils, fostering resilience, curiosity and a sense of independence that extends beyond the classroom.

Academic ambition

GCSEs and beyond

As pupils progress through the Senior School, they have the opportunity to specialise in areas of particular interest. In Years 10 and 11, our GCSE programme allows pupils to pursue subjects that excite and challenge them, laying strong foundations for A-Level study in the Sixth Form and beyond.

Our commitment to academic ambition ensures that every pupil has the tools and encouragement to succeed, wherever their passions and interests may lead.

Infinite opportunities

A launchpad for life

At Barney, we’re not just preparing pupils for exams – we’re nurturing young people who are ambitious and ready to thrive in an ever-changing world. Our curriculum isn’t just about facts and figures; it’s about building a sense of curiosity and a desire to keep learning, long after the school bell rings.

We inspire our pupils to ask questions, to dig deeper, and to find their own voices. From collaborative projects to thought-provoking discussions, every lesson is an opportunity to develop confidence, independence and a lifelong passion for learning.

An environment built for growth

Our supportive, caring environment ensures that every child feels valued and has the space to explore their full potential. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or through our extensive co-curricular programme, our pupils learn to lead, to support others, and to find their own path to success.

Barney’s approach to education is not about reaching a finish line; it’s about sparking a journey. We are proud to see our pupils leave the Senior School as well-rounded, capable and compassionate individuals who are ready to make a positive difference wherever they go.

At Barney Senior School, we’re not just nurturing academic success. We’re shaping well-rounded, kind and ambitious young people who are ready to fully embrace all that life has to offer and thrive in every aspect of their journey.
