Where every child is known

Wraparound pastoral care

Pastoral care sits at the heart of everything we do. We believe pupils achieve their best when they feel supported and valued, which is why we place such importance on creating a warm and welcoming environment where every child feels they belong.

During our Open Event, you’ll have the chance to meet the brilliant staff who support pupils throughout their journey, from form tutors and Heads of Year to boarding staff and senior leaders.

You’ll discover how we help young people overcome challenges and develop the confidence and character needed to flourish both in school and in life. At Barney, pupils are known as individuals, not numbers, and that personal approach makes all the difference.

Realising true potential

Academic ambition

Academic ambition is central to life at Barney. As a broad-entry school, we believe every pupil can achieve success when they are supported and inspired by excellent teaching.

Visitors will learn more about our knowledge-rich curriculum, small class sizes, and personalised approach to learning. From GCSEs and A Levels to our innovative Apollo platform, we empower pupils to take ownership of their progress and aspirations.

You’ll also hear about our strong examination results, university destinations, and the ways we support students in discovering their strengths and pursuing their ambitions. Whether your child is aiming for a leading university, an apprenticeship or another pathway, we provide the foundations for future success.

Explore, learn, grow

Co-curricular life

Our extensive co-curricular programme helps pupils discover new interests, develop their existing talents, and create new memories that’ll last a lifetime.

With more than 100 clubs, activities, and enrichment opportunities available each week, there really is something for everyone. From sport, music, drama, and outdoor pursuits to STEM, debating, Combined Cadet Force, and Duke of Edinburgh, pupils are always encouraged to get involved and challenge themselves.

During the Open Event, you’ll see first-hand how these experiences help develop confidence and independence. Whether they’re performing on stage, representing the school in competitions, or taking part in an international trip, our pupils benefit from opportunities that broaden horizons and build real character.
