Barnard Castle School Prep pupils marked World Book Day on 6th March 2026 with a vibrant celebration of imagination and inspiration.
The day showcased the incredible effort and enthusiasm of pupils, who arrived dressed as all manner of inspirational figures. Drawing on the Little People, Big Dreams book series, costumes reflected influential individuals from across the worlds of sport, science, music, and the arts. From pioneering scientists to sporting legends and global icons, pupils brought their heroes to life.
Festivities kicked off with a catwalk event, where each pupil had the chance to step into the spotlight and showcase their costume. Complete with ‘bouncers’ and a sense of occasion, the catwalk set an energetic tone for the day and celebrated the creativity of every participant.
Throughout the day, pupils also took part in ‘Stop, Drop and Read’ sessions. These moments encouraged everyone to pause, pick up a book, and enjoy reading together. The initiative reinforced the importance of reading for pleasure while creating a calm and focused atmosphere across the Prep School.
The afternoon shifted to a more active theme, as Mr Burgess encouraged pupils to channel their inner sporting heroes. Inspired by figures such as Senna, Federer, and Jordan, pupils took part in activities that tested their teamwork and determination.
To round off the celebrations, Mrs Chaloner hosted a Big World Book Day Quiz. The quiz brought pupils together for a fun and engaging finale, combining teamwork and a shared love of stories. Well done to all our Preppies for such a wonderful day. You were all stars, full of big dreams and big imagination!
