Netball

Netball is a vibrant and fast-growing sport at Barney. It fosters teamwork, confidence, resilience and leadership, skills that stay with pupils far beyond the court. Our inclusive and ambitious programme welcomes all pupils, from enthusiastic beginners to elite-level athletes and provides them with the opportunity to grow, compete, and thrive.

Led by passionate coaches and supported by excellent facilities, our netball programme offers regular fixtures, county and national competitions and clear progression pathways. Whether pupils are aiming for representative honours or simply enjoying the sport as part of school life, every player is encouraged and supported to reach their full potential.

Barnard Castle School is proud to celebrate the achievements of its current and former pupils. Charlie Lough, an U23 England international, is a role model for aspiring players. Ella Bowen, a former pupil and Super League player with Leeds Rhinos, now returns to coach at Barney, bringing top-level insight and inspiration to our training sessions. Netball at Barney is inclusive to both girls and boys, with opportunities to participate and compete throughout their time at school.

We also host County Netball Tournaments and Leeds Rhinos Performance Camps, giving our pupils regular access to high-performance environments and professional coaching on site.

Our journey from Prep to Senior School

From the earliest stages in Prep School, pupils are introduced to netball in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. The focus is on skill development, teamwork and enjoyment.

As pupils progress to the Senior School, they benefit from structured coaching, strength and conditioning support and regular competitive fixtures at regional and national levels.

We nurture players at all stages, whether they’re preparing for elite competition, county trials, or simply enjoying netball as a key part of their school experience. Leadership opportunities, including officiating and team management, are also encouraged as pupils grow in confidence and maturity.

Our netball facilities include four floodlit outdoor courts and a full-size indoor court, allowing for year-round training and fixtures.
