Surrounded by a strong sense of community, opportunity and belonging, life at York House empowers pupils to thrive, form lifelong friendships, and become the very best version of themselves.

Welcome to York House
Being part of the community in York House puts all of the fantastic opportunities available here at Barney on your doorstep. The House Handbook is a practical guide to being a boarder at Barney, and through digesting this document, you may get an idea of the ethos and culture of York House.
It should also reflect our strong desire to help you grow into an individual who can be happy, thrive and achieve all that you set out to achieve both at Barney and beyond your school days. Making the most of your time in York House is not all down to us, though. You are in control of many of the factors that will enable you to be the best version of yourself. Your daily habits and actions, underpinned by your attitude, discipline and mindset, as well as compassion towards the community, will go a long way to help you grow as an individual and reach your goals.
You should expect support and encouragement from the boarding team and teachers in all you do here at Barney, be that in the classroom, on the sports field, on stage or in the practice room. Whatever your passion may be, our foremost aim is for you to become a model Barnardian with a strong allegiance to York House.
