There are six weekends in the annual academic calendar (one per half of term) where there are no lessons on Saturday and Boarders can return home for a full weekend’s break with their families. These are called Exeat weekends.

Barnard Castle School boarding pupils sitting together.

We understand this is logistically difficult for some of our Full Boarders who live further afield, particularly those with parents abroad, and so our Boarding Houses remain open for Exeat weekends.

This is a fun time for those Boarders who stay on site, often with family-style meals, film nights and space to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Our dedicated Boarding staff will often arrange a trip or games on our extensive playing fields.
