Located in the stunning countryside of Northern England, Barnard Castle School (or ‘Barney’, as we are affectionately known) welcomes students from all over the world, with more than 20 nationalities currently represented throughout our school.

Our experienced boarding staff support international students every step of the way, ensuring they feel at home, fully integrated, and engaged in all aspects of Barney life.
Our dedicated and caring boarding staff provide continued support for all international students, possessing many years’ experience looking after children of all ages, cultures and backgrounds. Each international student is assigned a tutor upon arriving at Barney, who will be available to discuss any issues a pupil may have and offer guidance and support.
All overseas students fully integrate into every aspect of Barney life and contribute to our rich diversity, regardless of whether they are long-term or short-term international boarders. For details about our long and short-term boarding options, visit the links below.
Barney’s wide-ranging and popular co-curricular offering is a big part of school life, and our international students take advantage of our excellent facilities and vast grounds when taking part in activities. From CCF and Sport to Music, Drama and House Competitions, there are activities for everyone at Barney. Our boarding staff also arrange regular ‘fun days’ and trips on weekends.
