From Prep through to Sixth Form, we offer students the opportunity to learn and practice their chosen instrument in a supportive environment.

We offer every pupil the opportunity to learn an instrument on a one-to-one basis, and our amazing team of visiting music teachers (VMTs) bring with them a wealth of musical excellence and industry experience, with many of them working as professional performers alongside their teaching duties.

Individual music lessons occur weekly, lasting for thirty minutes and based centrally in the Music School. They follow a rotational basis, which ensures that pupils do not come out of the same academic lesson every week. Our VMTs offer bespoke tuition that is tailored to each pupils’ needs and work closely with full time music staff, meaning individual music lessons can be used to support the performance element of a pupils’ coursework for exam years, or go through pieces for a school ensemble that a pupil attends. Most commonly, pupils can take grades with exam boards such as ABRSM and MTB, and individual music lessons will be used to prepare pieces for such exams.

Our individual music lessons use Involve Education, a brilliant system that enables all lessons to be timetabled and registered directly by VMTs. Pupils are all automatically notified when their individual music lesson has been scheduled and are also sent a reminder prior to the lesson.

All pupils taking individual music lessons are encouraged to attend a school ensemble on their first instruments, including participating in chapel choir for those taking singing lessons.
