Our hockey programme is proudly inclusive, offering opportunities for players of all abilities while providing a clear and ambitious performance pathway for those aiming to compete at higher levels.

With regular entries into national competitions such as the England Hockey Schools Championships (ISHC), Tier 2 competitions, County Cups and National Cup tournaments, our players compete with purpose and pride. We set high standards, and our pupils are encouraged to push their limits while enjoying the game and building a lifelong passion for the sport.

Led by Alan Fisher, Master in Charge of Hockey, the programme benefits from expert coaching, structured development and strong relationships with local and national hockey organisations. Our partnership with Durham City Hockey Club allows pupils access to club-level training directly on site, further strengthening the bridge between school and competitive club hockey.

Our journey from Prep to Senior School

From their earliest years in the Prep School, pupils are introduced to the fundamentals of hockey in a fun, inclusive, and supportive environment. As they move through to the Senior School, they enjoy tailored coaching, regular fixtures and opportunities to progress into club, county and Talent Academy (TA) environments.

Whether a pupil is new to hockey or aspiring to represent their county or region, Barney offers a programme that supports and inspires all levels of ambition. Our coaching pathway encourages athletic development, while also offering pupils the chance to take on officiating roles and lead teams, developing leadership, responsibility and confidence in equal measure.
