Old Courts

Old Courts is our homely Prep School boarding house for up to 14 boys and girls aged 7-11. Situated at the heart of the school, between the Senior and Prep School buildings, Old Courts has a stunning outlook across the school fields at the rear and open countryside to the front, allowing the children to enjoy free time outdoors and to access the many outstanding facilities the school has to offer.

The Old Courts staff oversee the day to day care of the boarders, ensuring their needs are looked after in a friendly and enjoyable environment:
Houseparent – Mrs F Killeen (Year 5 teacher)
Houseparent – Mr M Killeen (Teaching assistant)
Non-resident matron – Mrs L-J Stewart
The team is also supported by other Prep School duty staff.

Old Courts has a comfortable lounge with television and DVD player, a dressing-up area and a kitchen where toast, cereal, fresh fruit, juice and milk is available each evening. The kitchen is also used for art and craft, board games and baking at the weekend. Breakfast, lunch and tea are taken with the other boarders in the Senior School dining hall. The bedrooms consist of two, three or four beds and are named after local castles or other places of interest such as Witton, Richmond and Tees. Children are encouraged to personalise their rooms with posters, photographs of family, friends or pets and, of course, their favourite cuddly toy or even a rug from home. Children may also bring a bike, roller skates or scooter to use during free time, which are stored in a secure shed, and electronic devices. They should also bring their own pillow, duvet, 2 duvet covers and 2 pillowcases as well as a small blanket (to wrap around themselves in case of a fire alarm). Laundry is done for them.

Our full-time boarders may be joined, when space allows, by day pupils who access our flexi and occasional boarding options, which further enhances our boarders’ experience and helps to grow their network of friends.

“The quality of boarding is excellent. Boarding meets its published aim to provide a happy, purposeful community based on such values as integrity, compassion and duty.” Independent Schools Inspectorate, 2016
