A Visit to the Hexham Book Festival

22 May 2025

(A write up by Madie A)

Emily, Bella and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Hexham Book Festival. The book discussed, Ungovernable- The Political Diaries of a Chief Whip, provided an insight into the world of British Politics during the pandemic, Brexit and the last election.

All 3 of us found the talk interesting and intellectually stimulating, not only the discussions between Simon Hart (the author) and the interviewer, but also those of the sometimes critical questioning of the audience, in which we actively participated.

We were lucky enough to catch a word with Simon at the end, much of this conversation included our opinions on Dominic Cummings’ trip to Barnard Castle, something he spoke about, and we even brought home a signed copy of the book addressed to our Politics Department at school.

The cherry on top was seeing former school teacher, Miss Snaith, at the talk too, which topped off what was an amazing trip.

The scenic route on returning allowed for a pleasant view as we read extracts of the book and mused over our reflections on the talk.
