Bowes Museum Concert

15 Mar 2019

Last Friday evening saw Barnard Castle School students excel in performances of concerto movements by Mozart, Bruch, Sparkes and Albinoni.

Ambra opened the concert with a sublime performance of the first two movements of the Bruch Violin Concerto No 1 in G minor. Caitlyn gave an impressive performance of the demanding Oboe Concerto by Albinoni, and a further Oboe concerto by Mozart was played with virtuoso technical mastery by Evelyn. Thomas performed with a beautiful lyrical tone Philip Sparkes’ ‘Song of Farewell’ arranged for full orchestra by Simon Dearsley. The Barnard Castle School Choral Society sang Bernstein’s ‘Chichester Psalms’ and the Brahms ‘Gypsy Songs’. The concert was Mr Dearsley’s final event at the Bowes Museum before retiring from teaching at Barnard Castle School.  The event was well attended by the Friends of Bowes Museum.
