Good Lads Workshop02 May 2018
On Friday, the Lower Sixth students took part in two workshops. The girls launched the #Barneygirlscan campaign, while the boys participated in a workshop delivered by Saaqib and Ben from the “The Good Lad Initiative”. This workshop aims to promote “positive masculinity”, and in doing so, enable men to deal with complex gender situations and become agents for positive change within their social circles and communities. Focusing on a diverse range of issues (consent, sexual harassment, masculinity, peer pressure, ‘banter’, social capital, power and responsibility), the workshop most certainly provoked a lot of discussion. The take-home message overall was that a “good lad” has the courage to take responsibility for enhancing the lives of themselves, their groups and of those around them.
