On Friday, 27th April, the ladies of Lower Sixth had a working afternoon tea whilst their male counterparts took part in two workshops aimed at promoting “positive masculinity”. During the conference style session, they listened to Jane Jordan (Old Barnardian) talk about her less-than-linear route into the corporate world in London and how gender inequality had played a part in shaping her journey. After another inspirational talk from the young ladies who attended the Female Founders Fair over the Easter holiday, the groups came up with new pitches for promoting female empowerment at Barney. It was fascinating seeing the creativity and buzz during the afternoon and whilst they delivered their pitches – from an emotive #IMpossible, to #GirlUp, and #letsgoladies – and it is clear to see that female empowerment is an issue close to these future leaders’ hearts.
