Sixth Form Careers Convention

13 Feb 2018

The inaugural Careers Convention, the flagship event of the Sixth Form Lecture series, was held in the Sixth Form Centre last Friday. In an extended lecture slot on, three professionals came to speak to the Sixth Form about the world of work. Louise Baker, a barrister, was joined by police sergeant, Sam Turner and chartered surveyor Jonathan Wallis, himself an Old Barnardian. One theme amongst all the professions was clear: academic grades will get you the interview, but people skills will get you the job! Miki (U6th in Dale House) commented: “The talks all had a thread running through them, and even though I am planning to study architecture at university, it’s great to know that all the softer skills we are learning in the Sixth Form are going to be the thing that sets us apart in the future.” The second-leg of the Careers Convention is happening on 9th March and we look forward to welcome professions from the medical field, interior design and the fitness industry.
