Prep Forest School Launch

15 Sep 2017

The sound of chainsaws could be heard throughout the Barney grounds this week as the Prep School officially launched its Forest School Programme. Following on from a live demonstration of woodcarving from Lee Hosking, aka the Owl Man, pupils from all year groups were shown just how some of these beautiful wooden carvings are made.

Carved straight out of tree trunks, the woodland creatures look almost life-like and add a sense of exploration and curiosity for the children as they touch, feel and experience the outdoors in a new way. Kindly donating their free time and resources, parents have helped greatly in setting up the Forest School area and created a wonderfully enchanting space that the pupils of the Prep School will enjoy today, and for years to come.

The aim of the project, spearheaded by Mrs Tabitha Michelin, is to allow holistic development, encourage their imagination and to help develop child initiated learning outside the normal classroom environment.
