Year 6 London Trip 2016

18 Oct 2016

Day 4 – Thursday 20th October

We were in awe of Westminster Abbey as we visited for the first time this morning. What a lovely welcome into the Abbey, as Barnard Castle Prep School was included in their morning prayer.  A quick walk up Whitehall saw us at Downing Street where we were lucky enough to pass through the gates and have the opportunity to get our photographs taken outside the famous black door.  Next up, the children were fortunate to be able to look at some of the fantastic paintings in the National Gallery, and take some close up photographs of the paintings that they are currently studying in Art.  Following a quick lunch in Green Park we boarded the bus to head back up north!  It has been a superb four days and the children have all been a credit to themselves and the School.  Many thanks to all the staff who have thoroughly enjoyed being part of this wonderful trip.

Day 3 – Wednesday 19th October

Year 6 continued their exciting four day trip, learning all about the wars at the Cabinet War Rooms, HMS Belfast and The Imperial War Museum. History was brought to life as they explored our heritage.  A trip on the London Eye was a fantastic way to round off another busy but exciting day.

Day 2 – Tuesday 18th October

We have had a really varied and fantastic day. Starting at the Tower of London, the Crown Jewels impressed us with their brilliance and history. Two superb actors showed us round Shakespeare’s Globe before all of the work we have been doing in English lessons about Macbeth was put to the test with a super workshop. The children did us proud! Skirting the Olympic parade, we then had a great time in the new Wonderlab at the Science Museum where we played and learnt about a number of fascinating Science topics. While we were there we all enjoyed watching Mr Seddon being hit with a wooden mallet, as part of an experiment, which received the biggest cheer of the day! Finally, to round off the day, we were royally entertained at the theatre by the genius genie in Disney’s Aladdin.

Day 1 – Monday 17th October

Year 6 settled into the Royal National Hotel after making their way to London for their annual four day visit.  Harry Potter World was a fantastic stop on the way down where found out all about the making of the films. This was a definite thumbs up from the children.  We are all looking forward to tomorrow’s busy itinerary.
