After looking at several schools for our son, Barnard Castle was the one school that stood out from the rest. The school has great family values. You are made to feel welcome at the school and as a parent you are kept informed on a regular basis with life at Barney.

Tennis is a popular summer sport that has gained momentum in recent years. The school has increased the opportunities for girls and boys to play by using the 3 hard courts and the Astro area which has nine summer courts.
The School produces girls' and boys' teams for inter school fixtures at Under 15 and senior levels as well as entering teams into the County Schools knockout competitions. In the past few years Barnard Castle School has been Durham County Schools knockout champions at Under 13, Under 15 and Under 18 age groups.
We are lucky to have Geoff Thomas, a licensed Professional Tennis Caoch, to instruct the pupils in games periods during the summer games session, and also during the course of the off season. This has been effective in raising the game and its profile within the school. I am also grateful to Miss Cover for her coaching of girls' tennis.
I still enjoy competimg and currently play both County 35's and 45's tennis. It is my hope that our boys and girls will go on to get as much out of this wonderful sport as I have and we encourage our players to join local clubs and continue to play beyond school hoping that we help equip them to enjoy the sport in their adult lives.
