Support for New Pupils
The standard of education is high and Barnard Castle produces a safe and secure environment where all can learn without anxiety.
Mr and Mrs N Hardy
We know how important it is to offer our new pupils time and support so that they can settle in as quickly as possible. Coming to a new school can be a daunting experience whatever age you are. Even the boys and girls who join us from our own Prep School need this guidance, particularly in the vital first few weeks. To make the transition process easier we hold an induction day in the summer term before they join, and again before the start of the autumn term. As well as having their own Houseparent and tutor, the new Year Seven pupils are given a pupil from the year above to act as their personal guide. They are also provided with their very own BFG (a ‘Big Friendly Giant’) from the senior years in their house. All our tutors speak with parents of new pupils after the first few weeks to let them know how they are settling in, and we warmly encourage parents to visit the school to support their son or daughter as soon as they start playing in concerts or school matches.
