Squash

As a new entrant to the private school sector it was big step into the unknown for our family. However, from our initial visit to Barney up until today we continue to be impressed with the open and very friendly atmosphere at school from teachers and pupils alike.

Mr J D Gedye - Head of Squash Mr J D Gedye - Head of Squash Squash is a traditional strength at Barnard Castle School. We boast three internationals, and many county players among our Old Barnardians. Coaching takes place on the two courts every night of the week from 4-5pm and also during games lessons by pupils who opt to specialise.

It is conducted by myself and Stuart Gaydon, an outside professional coach. We both have England Squash coaching qualifications.

The 1st V plays about 15 matches over two terms against schools and clubs and we also play schools at 2nd team, Under 15, Under 14 and Under 13 levels.

In recent years the !st V has reached the last sixteen of the national championships, and also beat two prestigious schools on its tour to Surrey.

Recreational squash is also catered for in activity times and in the evenings and at weekends for boarders.
