Religious Studies
Ethics and Philosophy is the fastest growing A level course in the country and Barnard Castle School reflects this trend in the RS department with large numbers grappling with the issues raised by an increasingly ambivalent world. The School itself has firm roots in the Christian tradition and this features in classroom teaching alongside the other great faiths and humanist ideologies. A year 8 can learn the teaching of Mohammad and the contemplation of Buddha. An A level student may ask if terrorism can constitute a just war. Committed to academic rigour (the department has a vibrant intranet site) and non confessional teaching without prejudice, RS stands alongside other departments as an essential part of the curriculum.
We thought very carefully about which school we should choose for our two sons and were keen to make sure that their very individual needs were met. I can with all honesty say that we were extremely happy with the all round education offered to each of our sons.
