Unlike Russell Crowe in 'A Beautiful Mind', not all Mathematicians are delusional geniuses. Most are quite ordinary and the only common delusion is that maths is for the few. It isn’t. The record shows that almost 100% of our pupils get A* - C at GCSE. We are proud that we have achieved 'added value' of one whole grade above what many pupils might expect to gain at GCSE.

We have buoyant numbers at AS and A2 and the subject is thriving with obvious spin offs for the sciences but also for Arts pupils who see the value of higher level Maths. With credits and prizes in the national mathematical challenges Barnard Castle School is recognised as a centre of excellence. It all adds up!
