Barnard Castle School Library forms a valued central resource within the school, providing study and research facilities, in a friendly environment, for all the school community.
The library endeavours to serve all members of the school community: to satisfy the desire for knowledge and understanding, to fulfil the requirements of the curruculum, to broaden cultural and recreational needs, and to give pupils the opportunity to develop their potential as a preparation for life.
Resources
In the library there are approximately 10 000 resources organised in accordance with the Dewey Decimal Classification System. There are six main sections of the library; non-fiction, fiction, reference, reserve books, and a magazine and networked computer area.
Information Skills
A regular programme of information skills for years 6-9 operates within the academic timetable, ensuring the confident use of skills to successfully acquire and diseminate information, so enabling resources to be fully exploited.
Competitions
We run competitions throughout the year but always celebrate World Book Day.
Author Visits
Sometimes we are priviledged to have authors visit us. Janni Howker spent the day with Year 8 , resulting in some excellent creative writing.
