Boys - Dale

This is without doubt the best start to their education we could have wished for.
Linda Grierson

Dale House is one of the three boys’ day houses. There are currently 74 members of the House in Year 7 to 13. Dale House was created due to increasing numbers of day pupils in Teesdale House which was split into two – Dale and Tees Houses. The House is found towards the rear of the main school building.

Houses play an important part in the life of Barnard Castle School. Each pupil is allocated an Academic Tutor. The Tutors are attached to each House and oversee the academic progress of each pupil. Pupils see their tutor at least once a day. The Housemaster and Assistant Housemasters deal with any pastoral issues that may occur. House Meetings are held every Wednesday.

There is a wide range of House Competitions. In the first half of the Autumn Term House Singing takes up a large proportion of the time. Towards the end of the term are the House Swimming and Rugby Competitions. The Barney Run is in the Easter Term followed by cricket and athletics in the Summer Term.

More informal competitions take place on Wednesday afternoons, these include: table tennis, basketball, soccer, hockey, art, chess, drama, public speaking, darts and music.

Whilst pupils are encouraged to mix and socialise with members of other Houses, they are all proud to be a member of Dale House. As they progress through the school they certainly see it as – their House. Strong and long lasting friendships are forged in their time in the House.
