Girls - Bowes
The standard of education is high and Barnard Castle produces a safe and secure environment where all can learn without anxiety.
Mr and Mrs N Hardy
Welcome to Bowes House
My name is Amy Jackson and I am Housemistress of Bowes House.
Bowes House was created in September, 2002. Before then there was just one House for day girls, Marwood, but the numbers had grown so large since girls were first taken throughout the school (in September 1993) that Marwood needed to be split into two separate Houses – hence the birth of Bowes House.
The name was chosen because the new house accommodation for the two houses was very close to the Bowes Museum, and this is also one of the reasons for the design of the House shield. The bows and arrows are part of the Bowes family crest which can be seen above the door of the Bowes Museum, the lions are the County Durham lion, and the colours are the colours of the County Durham.
I like to think that Bowes House is a happy house where each girl is treated as the individual that she is, and has the opportunity to learn and develop both intellectually and personally within a happy and caring community. Mutual respect and moral values are extremely important to us in Bowes House and I know that the girls are proud of their house and all that it stands for.
