Biology

Biology is all about the study of life. This planet of ours is in a bit of a state at the moment and it is an understanding of biology that holds the key to its survival. Our aim is to educate pupils in how important life is and how vital it is that we understand our position upon this planet. Man had the potential to make or break what we hold dear and we hope that through stimulating teaching and good example, we instil a sense of understanding and empathy with nature and the world around us.

Biology is a core subject that is taught as a separate science from Year 7 onwards. It is taught to all pupils up to GCSE. It then becomes an option in the sixth form. Our results at GCSE and A Level are consistently good and we are very proud of the achievements of the department. Students regularly leave Barnard Castle School to follow biology related courses at university.

After looking at several schools for our son, Barnard Castle was the one school that stood out from the rest. The school has great family values. You are made to feel welcome at the school and as a parent you are kept informed on a regular basis with life at Barney.
