Athletics

The standard of education is high and Barnard Castle produces a safe and secure environment where all can learn without anxiety.

Miss L J Shorthouse - Head of Athletics Miss L J Shorthouse - Head of Athletics Each Summer every age group participates in athletics which takes place on the beautiful grounds behind the main school. As well as competing against other schools at Gateshead International Stadium and other venues, the school also holds athletics competitions and its own sports day.In many ways this is one of the most enjoyable days of the year when parents can come and watch their children compete in track and field events at the start of half term. As with our other sports we are just as proud of those who represent their house as those who represent the county or country.

We have just enjoyed out most successful season in recent times with wins by individuals at the Northern HMC, and a victory against the four major north east schools in the meeting hosted on our own track.

Andy Woodward provides us with expert strength and conditioning coaching as well as working will pupils of all abilities and ages on their speed and agility. He is also well qualified to coach throwing technique along with other athletic disciplines.
