Sport

Sport and physical development are an important part of school life and make a significant contribution to our ethos of collaboration, determination, resilience and supporting others, while supporting the development of skills such as teamwork and communication. There are a wide range of opportunities for the children to try different sports and for older pupils to take part in a flourishing programme of inter-house and inter-school competitions and fixtures. We have a proud record of sporting success producing school teams at different age groups to compete successfully against other schools in the region. All children in Years 3 to 6 have the opportunity to play for school teams.

As part of the curriculum, Pre-Prep children develop their balance, jumping, hopping, running and throwing skills in PE and games. Swimming is timetabled for one term in each academic year. In Prep, children have swimming, PE and games lessons which concentrate on our major team sports of rugby, football, cricket, netball, hockey and rounders, as well as athletics and gymnastics. All children take part in our annual Pre-Prep and Prep Sports Days in the Trinity term.

There are many other opportunities for the children to participate in a variety of sports and physical activities through the extra-curricular programme. The children are taught and coached by qualified teachers from both Prep and Senior School and we also use professional coaches where appropriate to further their development.

“Pupils are successful in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, particularly sport, where their physical development is excellent.” Independent Schools Inspectorate, 2016
